How to Design Floral Arrangements

There are many different ways to design floral arrangements. If you want to create a stunning arrangement for your home but have never designed one before, a few simple tips can help you. First, it helps to know a bit about the various styles of arrangements that can be done. The first is called the horizontal arrangement. A horizontal arrangement is just what it sounds like, an arrangement that goes out rather than up. This style is perfect for a shorter vase such as a bucket or pail type container. The first step is to place sprays of greenery that add length. Then, you can fill in the center of your arrangement with the flowers of your choice.

The horizontal arrangement is short yet full. It is important to keep in mind that your container should be approximately one-third of your entire arrangement, regardless of what kind of arrangement you’re putting together. If you like taller flowers, a vertical arrangement is perfect for you. Just like with the horizontal arrangement, you should place your greenery in first then arrange your flowers. Your greenery should be about three times taller than your vase. You can use varying heights of flowers for a natural yet eye-catching look.

Another beautiful type of arrangement is the triangular arrangement. As its name suggests, this arrangement is made in the shape of a triangle. There are tall flowers in the center and shorter flowers on either side. The effect is dimensional and stunning. Your focal flowers should be, once again, about three to four times taller than your vase. Place the tallest flowers and greenery in the middle, then fill in the sides with the shorter flowers and greenery. There are many more types of arrangements you can put together. These three represent a few of the most popular. They can be done with real or silk flowers although you will find silk easier to arrange.
